Device Connection
This guide will walk you through the process of correctly connecting the FlexCap EEG device onto your head, ensuring optimal signal quality and a comfortable fit.
Before you begin:
Wet sponges with salt water: Use the sponges given with the FlexCap box and wet them in salt water. Remove excess water by squeezing the sponges and make sure they don't drip.
Clean earlobes: Use salt water to clean the back and front side of the subject's earlobes.
Clean your scalp: Ensure your scalp is free of dirt, excessive oil, or hair products. This helps improve sensor contact and signal quality.
Prepare your hair: Tie back long hair and ensure loose strands don't interfere with the sensor placement.
Connecting the FlexCap:
Placement: Locate the sensor markings on the cap and ensure they align with the corresponding areas on your head.
Wear the cap: Pull the cap over your head from behind, ensuring it covers your entire head comfortably.
Chin support: Locate the chin strap and adjust it for a snug but comfortable fit. This provides additional support and stability.
Adjust for comfort: Once secure, gently adjust the cap for a tight yet comfortable fit. Set the cap from the front such that the 2 sensors (Fp1 and Fp2) are 1 cm above the eyebrows.
Reference sensors: Clip the reference sensors (A1 & A2) onto the backside designated earlobes according to the user manual instructions. If there is an earring on the earlobe, place the sensors on the top of the ear pinna with the electrode side on the back for easier connectivity.
Reference sensors are crucial for proper signal acquisition. Other sensors won't be available if the reference sensors are not connected.
Sensor Connection Confirmation:
Once you've completed the steps above, observe the sensor status on the right side of the screen. When the connection is successful, sensors should start turning green.
Troubleshooting
No green sensors:
Reference sensors not connected: This happens in case your reference sensors are not connected with the earlobes. Gently wet your earlobes with salt water with the help of a sponge to improve reference sensor connection.
Only some sensors green:
Remove Snap cable: Gently remove the snap cable of the problematic sensor from its holder and detach the electrode. The electrode clips out of the snap cable when pulled softly.
Clean the scalp: Use an earbud to help move the hair and to clean the scalp. Move the hair up-down, and left-to-right motions and remove the excess hair such that the scalp is visible. Remove any excess hair that might be interfering with the sensor-to-scalp contact.
Hydrate scalp with sponges: Lightly moisten your scalp with salt water using the provided sponges to enhance electrode conductivity. Do not drip water onto the scalp only wet the area. Only wipe the scalp with the sponges.
Connect back the sensor: Place the electrode inside the holder and gently reconnect the snap cable. Install it on the holder to fix its position making sure the sensor is attached firmly.
Repeat for other sensors: Repeat the above process for every sensor that remains disconnected
By following these guidelines, you can ensure a secure and comfortable fit for your FlexCap device, optimizing your data collection experience.
